To enrich the reading experiences of senior citizens, the National Library of Public Information (NLPI) inaugurated the "Senior Picture Book Garden" on October 9, 2024. This cozy space, thoughtfully designed for older adults, features a blend of Northern European, Italian, Southern French, and English styles, creating a warm and inviting environment. The collection includes picture books with themes such as family, loneliness, nostalgia, and life, offering moments of resonance and joy for readers. This garden acts as a haven for seniors, fostering creativity and a renewed sense of vitality.
Director Ma emphasized the importance of preparing for Taiwan’s super-aged society, expected by 2025, by providing a spacious and comfortable reading area. The European-inspired garden design draws seniors in, while the focus on picture books encourages intergenerational reading, making the space appealing to all ages.
Situated on the third floor of the NLPI, the Senior Picture Book Garden not only provides a tranquil reading area but also fosters communication and understanding across generations. The library plans to continue hosting picture book lectures, shared reading sessions, and encourage seniors to create their own picture books, integrating the joy of reading into their daily lives.
