The Jing Wu Branch library building was established in 1972 as the main library of the Taiwan Provincial Taichung Library and the National Taichung Library. When the new main library was constructed, it became the Jing Wu Branch of the National Library of Public Information on January 1st, 2013. However, due to manpower issues and the policy objectives set when the library was first established, management of the library was turned over to the Taichung Public Library on November 1st, 2015, through collaboration with the Cultural Affairs Department of Taichung City Government.
To improve the reading space and service quality, a renovation of the interior space began on July 12, 2016, and the newly renovated Jing Wu Library reopened on February 1st, 2017, after a one-and-a-half-year renovation. The library consists of four floors, with the first floor dedicated to a lively and spacious children's area, as well as a comfortable senior area. The second floor features a literature area, a youth area, and an outdoor reading area, while the third floor houses a general collection area and a multicultural collection area. The fourth floor boasts a large lecture hall suitable for various lectures and reading promotion activities.
