"Into the Cloud Forest – Exploring the Salamander Special Exhibition"
National Library of Public Information Teams Up with Shei-Pa National Park to Unveil the Mysteries of the Alpine Elves
The National Library of Public Information (NLPI) has long been committed to sustainable development and the promotion of environmental education and ecological knowledge. This time, the library is proud to collaborate with the Shei-Pa National Park Headquarters, Yushan National Park Headquarters, and Taroko National Park Headquarters to co-organize the special exhibition,"Into the Cloud Forest – Exploring the Salamander." The exhibition will be held fromWednesday, April 23 to Sunday, June 15, 2025, at the NLPI’s first-floor Art and Culture Exhibition Area. Visitors will be guided into the enchanting world of alpine ecology and are warmly invited to discover the fascinating lives of Taiwan's national treasure species — the Formosan salamanders.
As relict species from the Ice Age, Formosan salamanders primarily inhabit cool mountainous regions above 1,500 meters in elevation and are considered invaluable representatives of Taiwan’s biodiversity. This special exhibition features a variety of engaging content, including stunning visual displays, rare video footage, and the latest research findings. It vividly illustrates the ecological characteristics, adaptive mechanisms, and conservation challenges of salamanders. Exhibition materials are sourced from Taipei Zoo, the National Park Service of the Ministry of the Interior, the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Taiwan Biodiversity Research Institute, National Taiwan University, and more. Visitors will gain an in-depth understanding of the salamander’s alpine environment, habits, and conservation efforts, along with rare footage and the fruits of extensive research.
NLPI Director Ma Hsiang-Ping stated, “The NLPI actively promotes sustainable development by spreading awareness of environmental education and ecological knowledge. Through the library’s knowledge-sharing platform, we hope to inspire greater public interest in nature and ecology. This collaborative exhibition with our national parks allows the public to learn about the unique ecosystem of the Formosan salamander and also raises awareness about the importance of alpine ecosystem conservation. We invite everyone to explore our extensive collections on sustainability, environmental protection, and ecological conservation to deepen their understanding of these crucial issues.”
In addition to the exhibition, a series of engaging activities will be held, including scheduled guided tours, expert lectures, and kamishibai (paper theater) storytelling sessions. These programs aim to educate audiences of all ages in a fun and meaningful way, emphasizing the importance of conserving endangered species and protecting the environment. For more information, please visit the NLPI official website or follow us on social media. We look forward to your visit as we explore the ecological wonders hidden in Taiwan’s alpine forests!
