《Introduction》Presented in conjunction with the exhibition, this lecture explores the landscapes of Tamsui and the eastern coast of Taiwan depicted in some of Chen Cheng-po’s most important paintings. Although time has transformed the scenery of Tamsui, the powerful waves of the Kuroshio Current remain much the same as they were in his time.
Through the perspectives of contemporary artists and scientists, the lecture revisits the places familiar to Chen Cheng-po, reflecting on the changes that have unfolded over the past eighty years. In doing so, it reveals the enduring value of this remarkable painter’s quiet integrity, artistic vision, and far-reaching hope.
