Rigoletto tells a story that we are all familiar with: a handsome but dangerous bad man, a girl who is too well protected, and a father who jokes in front of others but suffers in private. This lecture will use the perspectives of film, drama and character psychology to introduce you to an opera classic that was written a hundred years ago but is very much like a contemporary TV series. The lecture will talk about why audiences are always attracted to bad guys? We will also look at how opera can become closer to our world. Even if you have never heard of Italian arias, you can find out from this lecture that opera is not that far away.
