Over the past decade, with strong support from media exposure, Thai literature has shone brightly at international book fairs and through numerous screen adaptations. It has become a rising cultural soft power—alongside Thailand’s well-known strengths in cuisine, tourism, and trade. Among these developments, the global popularity of BL (Boys’ Love) literature has further fueled a wave of Thai BL works in Taiwan, captivating readers and unintentionally building a new bridge for cross-cultural exchange.
In this lecture, the speaker will present a curated selection of BL novels filled with themes of love, death, mystery, psychological disturbance, and the supernatural. Audiences will be guided through the contemporary landscapes of Bangkok as well as the historic settings of Lanna’s northern kingdoms during the Ayutthaya period. As the speaker unravels the threads of Thai history, geography, cuisine, clothing, and classical literature embedded within the stories, participants will be drawn into an enchanting and multilayered world.
