Mountains and Seas of Taiwan: 400 Spectacular Views
Hits:24
《Introduction
This lecture offers a long-term overview of Taiwan’s transformation from the perspective of natural history. It traces the island’s geological landscape from 4,000 years ago, the gradual changes that began around 400 years ago, and the dramatic transformations of the past 50 years.
It also explores the spatial development of Taiwan’s human history—from the western plains in the 17th century, to northeastern Yilan in the 18th century, and later to the eastern regions of Hualien and Taitung in the 19th century. These developments include shifts in natural vegetation as well as changes in urban and rural settlements.
By looking beyond traditional historical narratives based solely on written records, this lecture offers a new perspective on Taiwan’s past and invites reflection on the ethical relationships between people and the land.
