《Introduction》Scientific research is full of wonder, but how can fascinating knowledge cross the barriers of academic expertise? Kuan Kuan-chih and the “Science Comics Studio” have experimented with transforming serious topics such as biomechanics into approachable and engaging content through anthropomorphic comics and “moe” aesthetics. Their work highlights new possibilities for visual reading and knowledge communication in the digital age. This lecture will introduce the creative process behind the speaker’s latest popular science comic book.
The scientific content of the book was developed with support and academic supervision from Professor Chi Kai-jung’s science communication project. The lecture will guide audiences through highlights of the book, including works recognized in international comic competitions and humorous yet meaningful studies featured in the Ig Nobel Prize.
The session will also explore how comics, visual storytelling, and digital media can transform precise laboratory discoveries—such as the “world’s fastest” biological movements—into adorable anthropomorphic characters, turning complex academic research into science stories that everyone can enjoy and understand.
