The National Library of Public Information (NLPI), Taiwan's first digital national library, continues to lead the way in smart library innovation. In response to the wave of Generative AI(GAI) and the rising trend of digital reading, NLPI has officially opened its new smart technology exhibition area—"PLUS SPACE - Digital Co-Creation Space"—located on the second floor of the Main Library.
Director Ma, Hsiang-ping of NLPI stated that libraries must evolve to become places of inspiration. She noted that the space is designed around four themes: Information, Inspiration, Imagination, and Innovation. "PLUS SPACE" represents NLPI's shift from being a simple provider of resources to a "Co-creation Partner".
This space integrates GAI with digital archives, providing readers with an engaging and intuitive way to explore these resources. A key highlight is "AI Co-creation: Mohen," an AI Virtual Creator. Powered by local AI computing, Mohen invites readers to use the library's vast digital archives as creative material through simple, story-based tasks. This interactive experience allows readers to utilize digital collections—such as theOrchid Catalogue, the historicalPhotography News, and 490,000 e-books—fusing them with AI to complete a personalized journey of creative storytelling.
The "PLUS SPACE" includes several features designed to make digital reading more accessible and enjoyable:

• 3D Time Machine: Readers discover historical events of the day and receive matching e-book recommendations.
• LET'S PLUS: Readers use voice prompts to generate real-time AI images on a massive 20-screen display.
• Digital Reading Endorsement: Recommends e-resources tailored to everyday needs, such as "English Level-up" or "Parenting Support".
• Mobile Reading Login: Invite readers to browse e-books on-site and seamlessly transition to their own mobile devices for reading on the go.
• The Book Window: A tranquil space tailored for the digital age where readers can enjoy e-books by the window using provided e-paper tablets and mobile devices in a serene, comfortable setting.

The launch of "PLUS SPACE" marks the completion of NLPI's "Four-Part GAI Symphony":

1. 2023: AI Librarian "Xiao-Shu" for inquiries.
2. 2024: "AI Picks You" for personalized reading lists.
3. 2025: "AI Finds You" using semantic search.
4. 2026: "PLUS SPACE" for interactive co-creation.

By moving from one-way information retrieval to a two-way creative experience, NLPI is redefining the role of technology in smart libraries.
