Comics as a Mirror of Reality: Reading Toward Connection and Action
Hits:41
《Introduction
In Taiwan’s new generation of reading culture, comics have emerged as a rising and influential form. Although often associated with the “virtual” or the “unreal,” comics have not only gained large fan communities and helped shape the ACG (Anime, Comics, and Games) economy, but have also become an important medium for communication between public institutions and the public. For younger generations, comics serve as a way to connect with others, engage with the real world, and participate in social issues, while also prompting new reflections on identity, selfhood, and ethnicity.

This lecture will explore how comics use “fiction” as a mirror that reflects “reality,” and how the aesthetic of moe can empower readers. It will also share insights into how editors collaborate with comic artists to create works that communicate meaningfully and deeply with audiences.
