言語是溝通人與人之間相互的思想和信息，如果能多了解不同種族的語言，不但會豐富你的生活，而且會讓你的人生過得更多彩多姿。台灣現在最普遍的第二種語言是英語，而且幾乎有全民運動的趨勢，從幼稚園到六、七十歲的老人都孜孜不倦的從頭開始學習，小孩記憶力好，老年人領悟力高，學習不要嫌自己老，因為老了各方面經驗豐富，能舉一反三，學習得快呢？科技發達的今天，天涯若比鄰，而身為地球村志工的我們，更要有學習英語的意願，不怕不會，只怕不學，遇到困難，要以無比的毅力去突破，您就會覺得自己充滿著活力的，更加快腳步的向前走。茲列舉圖書館篇中的英語會話，提供給諸位參考：

Volunteer：May I help you？
志工：我可以幫您忙嗎？
Lisa：Yes.Do you have "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone?"
莉莎：是的。圖書館裡有“哈利波特神祕的魔法石”這本書嗎？
Volunteer：Yes. We have 10 copies, but only 2 are left in the library.
志工：是的。我們有10本，但只剩2本在館內。
Lisa：How can I get it？
莉莎：我怎樣才能找到書呢？
Volunteer：You can follow the call number of the books to find it.
志工：您可以根據索書號（圖書館編號）去找書。
Lisa：Would you please tell me the call number？
莉莎：請您告訴我索書號碼好嗎？
Volunteer：Sure.
志工：沒問題。
Lisa：I got the book. Can I borrow it？
莉莎：我找到了這本書。我可以借嗎？
Volunteer：Yes. You can check it out. Do you have library card？
志工：是的。您可借這本書。您有借書證嗎？
Lisa：No. How can I get one？
莉莎：沒有。怎樣才能取得借書證？
Volunteer：You can apply for one with your ID Card.
志工：您可以用您的身份證來申請。
Lisa：How many books can I check from the library？
莉莎：我一次可以從圖書館借多少本書？
Volunteer：Five books.
志工：5本書。
Lisa：And how long？
莉莎：可以借多久呢？
Volunteer：30 days.
志工：30天。
Lisa：Thank you very much.
莉莎：謝謝您。
Volunteer：You are welcome.
志工：不用客氣。

Peter：I am looking for a book on insects.
彼得：我在找一本有關昆蟲的書。
Volunteer：We have our catalog on computer here. Just type in "insects" under "subject".
志工：我們電腦裡有目錄。只要在"主題"的地方打入「昆蟲」這個字。
Peter：What do I do，then？
彼得：然後，我要怎麼做？
Volunteer：The computer will give you a list of all the books we have on insects with their call number.
志工：電腦會列出所有我們有關於昆蟲的書以及它們的索書號。
Peter：Do you have a copy machine？
彼得：你們有影印機嗎？
Volunteer：Yes. Do you know how to work the copy machine？
志工：有。您知道怎麼操作嗎？
Peter：No. Could you show me？
彼得：不知道。您可以做給我看嗎？
Volunteer：Sure.
志工：可以。
Peter：Thank you very much.
彼得：謝謝您。
Volunteer：You are welcome.
志工：不用客氣。
圖書館是我們知識的泉源，不論古今中外，上至天文，下至地理，應有盡有，只要您竭力的挖掘這知識的寶庫，一定會有意想不到的收獲，絕不會讓您空手而返。有一句格言"No pains,no gains." 即不勞苦則無所獲，也就是不經一番寒澈骨，焉得梅花撲鼻香。
